Pianist

Masters of Performance
Adam Biggs completed a Masters of Performance at Bath Spa University passing with a distinction in October 2011.
Adam received a "first" for his first recital on Thursday 10th Feb, 2011, which explored various versions of the classic tune SUMMERTIME.
Adam gave a lecture recital on Friday 10 June, 2011, again achieving a "first". Below is the abstract for the paper he delivered -
Metric Modulation
‘Rhythm presents many interesting problems, few of which have been clearly formulated.’(Cowell & Nicholls 1996)
"Abstract - Rhythm is fundamental to music. Its intrinsic nature, its pulse, is considered as being fixed. However a new type of playing emerged in the second half of the Twentieth Century, which challenged the notion of a fixed regular pulse, and in so doing challenged the accepted expectations of the listener.
This lecture will discuss and define Metric Modulation as a means by which music can speed up, or slow down in a measured way, and thus create and affect tension and release."
Adam completed his Masters with a final recital on 10 October, footage is available here. The Major project was a compilation of New Standards into a New Standards Real Book. This also was awarded a distinction.
